In the game Sky: Children of the Light, candles are the primary currency. They can be collected by players in a variety of ways, including lighting red candles or burning Darkness Plants found throughout the Realms. Pieces of Light, also known as Wax, are orbs that can be collected to forge candles. The Daily Light system, introduced in the 0.13.0 update, allows players to collect their usual number of candles more efficiently. Under this system, players begin the day with three chevrons, or V-shaped marks, over the candle meter. As players collect Light, the number of chevrons decreases, and the amount of Light required to forge subsequent candles increases. Players can also collect Treasure Candles, which appear as large red cakes and grant 50 Pieces of Light.

What You'll Learn

Collecting Pieces of Light/Wax
Collecting pieces of light or wax, also known as candle farming, is an important part of the Sky: Children of the Light game. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to collect these valuable resources:
First, it is important to understand that there are different types of candles in the game, including regular candles, seasonal candles, and ascended candles. Seasonal candles are special and can only be obtained during an active season. These candles are valuable as they can be exchanged for rewards such as emote upgrades, cosmetics, sheet music, and blessings. However, they are only valid for a single seasonal event, so players must use them wisely.
To collect pieces of light or wax, players must explore the game world and find red candles. These candles can be lit, and by standing close to them, players can receive light. It is important to do this frequently as you explore and progress through the game. The top-left corner of the screen displays the total number of candles owned by the player. If a player has no candles, a transparent candle icon will be visible, which gradually fills as light is collected from the red candles.
Players can also find winged light or stars scattered throughout the valley. These stars are an important source of light and can be collected by exploring every corner of the game world. Additionally, players can obtain light by completing daily quests offered by the Quest Giver NPC found in the Home space. Each completed quest rewards the player with one seasonal candle, and four quests are available per day, with an additional bonus quest for Season Pass holders.
It is worth noting that the location of seasonal light sources and daily quests changes daily, so players must be vigilant and adapt their strategies accordingly. By collecting light from four clusters of seasonal candles, players can forge a seasonal candle, further increasing their candle collection. This process of collecting light and forging candles is a continuous cycle that players must engage in to progress in the game.

Sources of Light
In the game Sky: Children of the Light, candles are a crucial form of currency. Players can collect Pieces of Light (also called Wax) to forge candles, which can be used for unlocking spirits, purchasing cosmetics, or saving up for seasonal events. The Daily Light system introduced in the 0.13.0 update allows players to collect their usual daily candle amount more efficiently, with three chevrons displayed at the start of each day, which disappear as light is collected.
There are various methods and routes to farm candles efficiently in the game. The Grandma and Geyser events occur every two hours, alternating between odd and even hours, and offer a high amount of light in a short time. Shard Eruptions, introduced in the Season of Shattering, occur nearly every day, with shards periodically bursting from the mountain and landing in fixed locations in the Realm. Treasure Candles, or Bonus Candles, are large red "cakes" that grant the player 50 Pieces of Light each, with the Daily Bonus Candle providing approximately 200 Pieces of Light.

The Daily Light system
At the start of each day, the player's Sky child is "fully refreshed", and the number of Chevrons over the candle meter resets to three. The candle meter in the interface will change as you play Sky, animating and changing colours to indicate progress through the candle-forge levels. One chevron disappears after collecting Light equivalent to 5, 10, and 15 candles. Once 20 candles' worth of Light has been gathered, the candle meter will turn grey. When the player logs in after reset, a clock icon appears over the candle meter, signifying the Daily Light refresh.
Under the Daily Light system, players can collect their usual number of candles each day more quickly while keeping the maximum obtainable amount of candles roughly the same as before. This allows players to have a more organic experience within the game and spend more quality time with friends without feeling rushed to grind and collect wax.
Players can collect Pieces of Light by lighting red candles or burning Darkness Plants found throughout the Realms. Light appears as red fire orbs, floating above Candles that are lit or in a location where Darkness has been burned. Blue orbs may appear instead when Darkness is burned near water or when spawned by water-specific Light sources (e.g. clams, fish).

Treasure Candles
In Sky: Children of the Light, Treasure Candles, also known as Bonus Candles or Candle Cakes, are large red "cakes" that act as collectible Light sources for players. Each Treasure Candle grants the player 50 Pieces of Light, and they come in two types: permanent and daily. Collecting the Daily Bonus Candle is an essential part of the game as it can provide approximately 200 Pieces of Light, significantly boosting your total.
To forge a candle, players need to collect Pieces of Light, also called Wax. These are orbs that players can collect by lighting red candles or burning Darkness Plants found throughout the Realms. Blue orbs may appear instead when Darkness is burned near water or when spawned by water-specific Light sources like clams or fish. When a player approaches these Pieces of Light, it will fly into their bodies and fill up the Candle meter displayed on the top left corner of the screen. When it is fully filled, the player can click on the meter to forge a Candle, adding it to their total count.
The Daily Light system, introduced in the 0.13.0 update, is a revamped candle-forging mechanic designed to reduce the time required to farm Pieces of Light. At the start of each day, the player's Sky child will be "fully refreshed", meaning they will forge candles very quickly, requiring less light than usual. This is indicated in the UI by three chevrons. As you collect Light through the realms and forge candles, the number of chevrons will decrease, requiring more Light to forge subsequent candles.
Players can also maximise their candle farming efficiency by utilising Grandma and Geyser, which are two of the best methods to gather a large amount of Light in a short time. Shard Eruptions are another mechanic introduced in the Season of Shattering, where Shards periodically burst from the mountain on the horizon, landing several times throughout the day at a fixed location in the Realm.

Candle meter
The candle meter is an important aspect of the Sky: Children of the Light game, where candles are one of the in-game currencies. The meter can be found in the top-right corner of the interface and changes as the player progresses through the game. Each day, the player's Sky child is "fully refreshed", and the number of chevrons (up-pointing V-shaped marks) over the candle meter resets to three.
The meter animates and changes colour to indicate progress through the candle-forge levels. When a candle's worth of light is collected, an animation plays, showing a chevron shortening in width, indicating the number of candles collected. This system is designed to reduce the time spent farming pieces of light, allowing players to have a more organic experience within the game.
To forge a basic candle, players must find and light red candles, receiving light from them. By collecting enough light, players can then forge a candle, visible through a red dot icon in the top-left corner of the screen.
Seasonal Candles are special candles that can be obtained during an active Season. These candles can be given to Seasonal Spirits in exchange for rewards. They can be obtained by completing Daily Quests or by forging them after collecting light from four clusters of Seasonal Candles.
