Collect pieces of light or wax orbs

Pieces of Light, also called Wax, are orbs that players can collect to forge Candles, one of the main currencies in Sky: Children of the Light. They are primarily collected by lighting red Candles or burning Darkness Plants found throughout the Realms. Blue orbs may appear when Darkness is burned near water or when spawned by water-specific light sources like clams or fish. Blue and red orbs are equivalent and functionally the same.

There are two types of Treasure Candles: permanent and daily. Each Treasure Candle will give the player 50 Pieces of Light. Permanent Treasure Candles exist in specific locations and do not change. Daily Treasure Candles appear in a different Realm every day, rotating between the Daylight Prairie, Hidden Forest, Valley of Triumph, Golden Wasteland, and Vault of Knowledge. The chosen Realm is indicated by two lit Red Candles outside the Realm's Archway Portal at Home and Aviary Village.

There are 32 Permanent Treasure Candles and 4 Daily Treasure Candles that can be collected daily. Permanent Treasure Candles can be found in the following locations: the left dune cave of Piggyback Lightseeker, the left dune cave of Pointing Candlemaker, the right dune cave containing a Child of Light, and the entrance of the Cave of Prophecies.

Daily Quests and Events are another way to collect Pieces of Light. Completing daily quests grants Seasonal Candles and extra wax. During the Geyser event, Darkness spiky balls erupt, providing plenty of Light for players to collect. The Grandma Grandma event, located in the Elevated Clearing of Hidden Forest, is another way to collect Light. Six white Light orbs appear on the table every minute, each granting 9 Pieces of Light when burned.

On the road to the point of no return, there are occasionally Pieces of Light scattered along the path where small red radiant shards are located. While flying, players receive 5 Pieces of Light for each Ancestor Spirit they fly into.

Light red candles and burn dark plants

In Sky: Children of the Light, players can collect orbs called Pieces of Light (also called Wax) to forge Candles, one of the game's main currencies. Pieces of Light can be obtained by lighting red candles or burning Darkness Plants. Darkness Plants are mostly found in the Golden Wasteland, but they have also been introduced in Daylight Prairie and Hidden Forest.

To light red candles and burn dark plants, players can follow these steps:

  • Find a source of Darkness Plants: They can be found in the Golden Wasteland, Daylight Prairie, or Hidden Forest. Some Darkness Plants only appear every other day, based on two rotations marked by a Day indicator (D1 or D2).
  • Approach the Darkness Plants: Be cautious, as some Darkness Plants, like those found during the first seasonal quest in The Valley located in the Crescent Oasis, will deplete your light and extinguish you if you do not have enough Winged Lights.
  • Burn the Darkness Plants: By burning the plants, you will obtain Pieces of Light in the form of red fire orbs (or blue orbs near water). These orbs will fly into your body and fill up your Candle meter.
  • Light Red Candles: In addition to burning Darkness Plants, lighting red candles will also provide you with Pieces of Light. Explore the world to find these candles and light them to collect the Wax.
  • Forge Candles: Once you have collected enough Pieces of Light/Wax, you can forge new Candles. You can collect up to 20 candles per day.

It is important to note that burning Darkness Plants and lighting red candles are not the only ways to obtain Candles. Players can also receive Candles as rewards for completing Daily Quests or by purchasing them from the in-game shop. Additionally, Candles can be obtained by converting three Candles into a Heart and then splitting the Heart into individual Candles.

Complete daily quests and events

Candles are the primary currency in Sky: Children of the Light. They can be earned by completing daily quests and events. Here's a guide on how to maximize your candle collection through these activities:

Daily Quests

Daily Quests are a great way to earn candles in Sky. The icons of the quests of the day will appear white when unfinished and turn yellow when completed. During an active season, these quests will reward you with Seasonal Candles, which can be used to purchase seasonal cosmetics and expression upgrades. If there is no active season, you will receive regular Candles instead.

To receive your reward of one White Candle or Seasonal Candle per completed quest, simply interact with the Return Shrine at Home or the Daily Quest Spirits at Aviary Village. It is possible to safely complete all Daily Quests, but for more dangerous quests, it is recommended to bring a friend who can help recharge you or collect your fallen Winged Light.

Events

Participating in events is another excellent way to boost your candle collection. Here are some notable events to consider:

  • Geyser Event: Located in Sanctuary Islands, this event raises awareness about ocean pollution. It has a 5-minute buffer before it starts and then lasts for 10 minutes. During this time, Darkness spiky balls erupt from the geyser, providing plenty of Light for players to collect.
  • Grandma Event: Visiting Grandma twice is recommended as it can help you accumulate at least 19 candles.
  • Turtle Event: This event can be visited once a day and is part of a route that includes the Geyser and Grandma events.
  • Treasure Candles: Also known as Bonus Candles or Candle Cakes, these are sources of Light that appear in the shape of large red "cakes." There are permanent and daily Treasure Candles, with the latter appearing in a different realm each day. Each Treasure Candle provides 50 Pieces of Light.

By combining daily quests and participating in these events, you can efficiently earn candles and progress in Sky: Children of the Light.

Visit Granny and Geyser

To give yourself candles in the sky, you need to collect light. Here's a guide on how to do that by visiting Granny and Geyser in Sky: Children of the Light:

The Grandma Spirit holds a timed event at the Ancestor's Table of Belonging in the Elevated Clearing of Hidden Forest. This event, called Grandma's Dinner, repeats every two hours and lasts for 15 minutes. It starts every half-past two hours after the reset time in your timezone. For example, if your reset time is 8:00, Grandma will serve you food at 0:35, 2:35, 4:35, and so on. The event lasts for approximately 10 minutes. During this event, you can collect around 500 pieces of wax, which count as social light.

The Polluted Geyser is a Social Light area added to the Sanctuary Islands during Days of Nature 2021 to raise awareness of ocean pollution. It is located at sea level between two caves. The geyser erupts Darkness spiky balls that give Pieces of Light when burned. The first eruption starts at reset (midnight for PST/PDT) and then repeats every two hours, lasting 15 minutes. The start is signified by a seashell in the centre of the Geyser floating up and unclogging it. During the first 5 minutes, steam blows out of the five vents around the geyser. Then, for the next 10 minutes, the geyser fills up and erupts Darkness spiky balls every minute. The Darkness spiky balls come in three sizes: small (5), medium (10), and large (15). Each eruption will give you around 300 wax, and you can collect up to a limit of 1000 wax.

Visiting Granny and Geyser is a great way to collect light without having to do candle run routes. The wax you collect can be used to forge candles, which are needed for various interactions in the game, such as unlocking chat functions with other players.

Purchase candles from the in-game shop

Candles are the basic currency in Sky: Children of the Light. They can be earned by collecting light from red candles scattered throughout the game world. Players can also purchase candles using real money in the in-game shop.

The in-game shop in Sky: Children of the Light is called the Premium Candle Shop. It is the only way to obtain certain game collectibles, as most items are obtained using in-game currency from spirits. Players can access the Premium Candle Shop by clicking on the top right corner of their screen and then clicking on the gear icon to open the Gear Menu.

The Premium Candle Shop offers a variety of candle packs that can be purchased using real money. The price of these candle packs varies, ranging from $4.99 for the Starter Pack, which includes an Orange Cape and 20 candles, to $29.99 for the TGC Guitar Pack, which includes a Blue Electric Guitar and 115 candles. There are also Seasonal Packs available for purchase whenever there is an active season, as well as Special Event cosmetics.

During Seasonal Events, players can purchase packs of Seasonal Candles, a Season Pass for themselves, or Gift Packs for their friends. For example, the Gratitude Pack includes an Adventure Pass for the player and can also be gifted to two friends. It is important to note that friends will not receive the extra 20 seasonal candles that come with the pack.

In addition to the standard Premium Candle Shop, players can also purchase candles through the Sky Web Store, an alternative online web payment method. The Sky Web Store allows players to buy candles, seasonal candles, and gift passes using Xsolla Pay. However, these purchases cannot be made on a Nintendo Switch device.
