Kohl's recalls
In November 2020, Kohl's issued a recall of its SONOMA Goods For Life branded three-wick candles due to fire and burn hazards. The recall affected about 512,000 units sold nationwide and online at Kohl's stores from December 2019 through October 2020 for approximately $20. The candle's high flames could ignite the surface of the wax or cause the glass to break, posing risks of fire and burn injuries.
Kohl's received 29 reports of incidents involving high flames and/or breaking glass containers with the three-wick candles. These incidents included five cases of minor burn injuries and six cases of minor property damage, such as burn marks on furniture, carpets, and countertops. In response to the recall, consumers were instructed to immediately stop using the recalled candles and return them to the nearest Kohl's store. Customers with a valid receipt were offered a full refund, while those without a receipt received store credit.
The recalled candles were identified as the SONOMA Goods For Life three-wick candles in various models and scents. They were packaged in glass containers with metal lids, and the model name or language was printed on the exterior of the glass container. The fragrance, style number, UPC, and date code could be found on the label at the bottom of the container.
To facilitate the recall process, Kohl's provided a toll-free number (855-564-5755) that customers could call from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT, Monday through Saturday. Alternatively, customers could visit the Kohl's website (www.kohls.com), click on "Recalls" at the bottom of the page, and follow the instructions provided. This recall was conducted voluntarily by Kohl's in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to ensure the safety of their customers.
